Master roster basics:
The master roster is updated once a week, usually on Sunday. Your updates can be sent in Excel, Word, or just plain text in an email, but please send in alphabetical order in whichever format you choose. The master roster records the skater name, jersey number, league name, team name, and team theme of each skater of the rollergirl-type of leagues (banked or flat).
The latest version of the master roster can always be accessed in the files section of the "roller_girls" Yahoo group.
The rules of are:
1) make sure your skater is really committed to your league before putting her name on the roster
- most leagues make their new recruits hang around & have good practice attendance for a couple of months before letting them claim a name
- please check the roster for skaters that are no longer with your league & remove them regularly
2) have one person in your league send in master roster updates
- it's much easier to get them from one person per league instead of each individual skater, plus then I know they really do belong on your league's roster. Believe me, all kinds of people try to send in updates to your rosters.....
3) check all your skater names against the CURRENT version of the master roster before sending them to me
- duplicate skater names are not allowed (even if they're spelled differently)
- new skater names that are extremely similar to existing skater names (for example, Cat Sniffer & Cat Snifter - too close for comfort!) are discouraged & usually not allowed
- if a duplicate name is submitted, I will not add it to the master roster and will reply to your email letting you know that the name was rejected
- if two skaters agree to share a name, then I need to see that agreement in writing from the established skater. It’s now become common for someone to tell me that they’ve received approval to use an existing name, when in fact they have not.
4) It's also discourged for skaters to select names that duplicate exsiting team or league names, or for leagues to select team names that duplicate exsiting skater names, and all variations of these situations.
5) New team names cannot be the same as another existing team name. It's OK to have a common team theme, everyone understands that there are only so many appropriate themes to go around. But, try to avoid the more common themes (hotrods/mechanics, cops, pirates, psychos). And, if you do decide to use a team theme that's already in use, please try to put a new spin on it & make sure that your uniform is VERY different than the other uniforms. Obviously, this will take some research on your part. But, if you neglect to do that research, you'll catch hell about it from that existing team, for sure!
I guess that's about it. Send me your stuff whenever you're ready & I'll add your league to the master roster.
Thanks!
